Movie Night!

Thank you to everyone who came to and volunteered at Movie Night!  We had a great turnout...even a special guest stopped by...The Jet's Man!

Update:  Due to the low turnout of volunteers, there will not be an all school head lice check tomorrow.
Some simple steps we can take at home to prevent the spread of lice at Wilson is to be sure your child knows the importance of not sharing any items that touch the head or ears. Explain to your child what lice is and that they should avoid touching heads with other children. Also, be sure to inspect your child’s clothes—particularly hats, shirts, scarves, and coats. We hope this helps, thank you!

Wish Stockings

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be there!

The Teacher Wish Stockings have been hung in the main entrance of the school.  If you are looking for that perfect gift for your child's teacher, be sure to stop by and grab a "wish" (or two) for their classroom!  All stockings will be filled with teacher wishes by December 2.

PTA Updates and Reminders

Congratulations to the Wilson Lego Crew for qualifying for the State competition! We are all very proud of you. The State competition will be held Sunday, December 8 in Appleton at Appleton East High School. Opening ceremonies/robot matches begin 12 p.m., closing ceremonies and awards at 4:30 p.m. Good luck to the Lego Crew at State!

 

Mr. Kelly has coordinated his first parent information night where he can address various technology topics with our Wilson families. Information about the first night is below:

Thursday, November 21^st 5:30 – 6:30pm
Wilson Web-Based Programs:
Come and learn how to use our different web programs to encourage your child's learning outside of school and to setup an effective at home learning routine. We will cover the basics(Where to go, how to login, what you child should be doing, how this is benefiting them, strategies for helping at home) for the following web programs: Raz-Kids, Achieve3000, TumbleBooks, Dreambox and if there is time Discovery Education.

Our next Out-n-About restaurant fundraiser is Monday, November 25 at Oscar’s Frozen Custard, 2362 S. 108^th Street. Watch your student’s folder for the Oscar’s flyer, and bring that in on November 25 to help Wilson! Oscar’s will donate a portion of all sales with our flyer back to our school. The flyer is attached. Share the flyer with friends and family!

Did you order your new Wilson Spirit Wear? No fear, another order will be opening this Friday, November 22 and run through December 6. Visit www.dunnssportinggoods.net to order. All items will be delivered before the holiday break. These make fantastic presents!

The Wilson PTA is having a movie ticket and gift card fundraiser! Choose from:

· Marcus Gift Certificates in $5, $10 and $25 denominations

· Marcus Gift Cards in $10 or $25 denominations

· Discounted movie tickets – which include free “snack cash”

An order form was sent home in your child’s folder. Orders will be collected on December 3, 2013 with delivery of all tickets and gift cards before the holiday break.

Congratulations to Kim Adamek, who was our Facebook contest winner when we hit 100 likes! Our next Spirit Wear giveaway will be at 150 likes. Wilson families and friends, like us on Facebook and win prizes!

The ‘Tis the Season Celebration with Santa will be Friday, December 13 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Watch for information about this festive event to go home this week. Response forms are due by December 6.

To help make your holiday shopping a bit easier, PTA has put together “Wish Stockings” for all the teachers at Wilson!  The “Wish Stockings” will be hung in the main entrance of the school beginning December 2. Each teacher will have their own “Wish Stocking” filled with ideas of items they need and/or want for their classroom! If you find something from that stocking that you would like to purchase for your child’s teacher this holiday season, simply take that “wish” out of the stocking and you are ready to shop! Feel free to take as many “wishes” as you would like. And don’t forget Wilson’s specialist teachers, they do a lot for our kids too!  We hope this will take some of the stress out of your holiday shopping this season!

Updates & Reminders

Thank you to everyone who came to the Wilson Costume Party on Friday, it was a HUGE success!  And a special thank you to everyone who volunteered at the dance.  We cannot do these events without the support of all our volunteers!  We had a large donation of canned goods that were donated to a local food pantry...THANK YOU to all who donated!  Pictures from the dance will be posted soon!

Don't forget Tuesday is our next PTA restaurant fundraiser at Qdoba on Hwy 100 in West Allis.  Qdoba will donate 10% of your total order to Wilson PTA with the Qdoba flyer that was handed out in your child's folder.  Additional flyers are located in the office.

Attention all 5th graders/parents...if your 5th grade student would like to participate in designing the 5th grade t-shirt please be sure they turn in their drawing to their teacher by Wednesday October 23.  We will not accept any drawings after Wednesday!

Book Fair

The PTA Scholastic book fair begins with a GRAND EVENT on Saturday October 19th at 8:30 am - 11:30 am continuing October 21, 22 & 23.  Be sure to check out Wilson's Scholastic Book Fair webpage at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/cptoolkit/publish/wilsonwestallis

The penny war started today!  Send in your loose change to school with your child so their class has an opportunity to win free books at the book fair.  Also, be sure to return your child's completed PTA reading sheets.  If we reach our goal of 460 reading sheets, Mrs. Gottinger will get wrapped like a mummy!

PTA Updates/Reminders

Wilson PTA has a few reminders for you as we head into this beautiful fall weekend!

 

Have you ordered your Wilson spirit wear yet? Our order closes on September 30 at 5 a.m. so be sure to get your orders in over the weekend! Visit http://www.dunnssportinggoods.net  to order your spirit wear now!

Wilson also earns funds through Market Day sales. You can order via the flyer that gets sent home with your child, or online at http://www.marketday.com/. Just set up an account and have your sales go to Wilson. Your order will be delivered and available for pickup with all other orders. Our next pickup day is October 8, so get your order in soon.

Keep watching your child's folder for information on our Scholastic Book Fair and Penny Wars! The Book Fair will kickoff with the "Grand Event" on Saturday, October 19 and continue October 21-23. Ensure the kids get to "mummify" Mrs. Gottinger by getting their PTA reading sheets turned in. More reading sheets are available either from your child's teacher or in the office.

Box Top collection is coming up soon! Please keep turning in those Box Tops! Each Box Top is worth 10 cents to Wilson, so please help us reach our goal of $2,500! You can turn in Box Tops to your child's teacher or to the collection bin in the office. Also, if you are interested in helping to cut/sort Box Tops for mailing, please send us a reply email and we'll get you set up!

The Costume party is Friday, October 18. Of course, the event will only be successful with your help! Please contact us if you would like to volunteer helping with a game, crafts, kitchen, sales or more!

Weekly PTA Update/Reminders

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Wilson PTA pizza and flower bulb fundraiser!  All money raised will go right back to the school to benefit your child.  We will announce our top seller for the pizza sale on Monday.  Pick up for your orders will be Monday, October 7 from 3:00-6:00 pm.

Don't forget...the Wilson PTA spirit wear sale is still going on! Get your cool new spirit wear before time runs out. Deadline to order is September 30th!  You can place your orders directly online at www.dunnssportinggoods.net. 

Wilson will be hosting parent informational nights beginning Tuesday, September 24.  You should have received a special invitation from your child indicating which night you should attend.  The sessions are Tuesday September 24 (third floor) 5:30-6:00 or 6:00-6:30, Wednesday September 25 (second floor) 5:30-6:00 or 6:00-6:30, and Thursday September 26 (1st floor) 5:30-6:00 or 6:00-6:30.  We hope to see you there!

Wilson PTA Updates

Two weeks in...how is everyone doing? Are your children enjoying the new school year? The traffic situation will start to get better in early October, until then, thank you to everyone for making changes to their pickup/drop off routines to accommodate the construction!

Our Spirit Wear is still available online until September 30. Visit https://www.dunnssportinggoods.net/home.php?cat=265 to order any of our new items. After September 30, this order will be closed and items sent to school for pickup (date TBD). We will have two more ordering windows during the school year, and a limited amount of items available at our Family Events. Questions/comments, please let us know!

Our Palermo's Pizza and Growing Green fundraisers are due Thursday, September 19 (order forms and payment). Pickup for these items will be on Monday, October 7 between 3-6 p.m. Thank you to everyone who is participating!

 

Box Tops! Box Tops are available through General Mills products and can also be accumulated through online shopping on the http://www.boxtops4education.com/ website. Each Box Tops submitted earns Wilson a donation that goes towards field trip transportation, classroom items like technology updates and supplies, physical education equipment and more. Please send in all of your Box Tops for our first big collection day by October 7!

Are you on Facebook? So are we! Please find us at West Allis Wilson PTA. Here we post regularly about upcoming events, deadlines, fun facts, etc. It's a great place to stay connected to Wilson! ***NEW*** Facebook contest! When we hit 100 likes, we will pick one random follower and give away some new Wilson Spirit Wear! We will do the same at 150 likes. So find us on Facebook and share our page with other Wilson families!

Do you like Target? Target is continuing their 'GiveWith' promotion. This program asks for likes through a separate website and then awards schools gift cards based on the number of votes received. Currently Wilson is at 81 votes. You can find the link for this contest (it is a Facebook contest) on our PTA page, or visit givewith.target.com and vote for Wilson. Feel free to share this with your friends and family as well!

Wilson will host an Information Nights on September 24 (third floor), September 25 (second floor), and September 26 (first floor). Please watch your student's folder for more information.

The Wilson school directory information form was sent home in your child's folder during the first week of school,. Please send that in as soon as possible so we may get the directory out to you.

Thank you for attending Monday night's PTA meeting! I know it was hot in the Fieldhouse, but we appreciate your commitment to the school and to our mission!

Any questions about items from the meeting, or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. 

 

Don't forget to use your Orange Leaf flyer and cool off TODAY!  It's going to be a hot one! The program runs until 11 p.m. tonight! 20% of the proceeds from our sales will come back to our school.  We hope to see some familiar faces at Orange Leaf tonight!

PTA News

We hope you and children have had a smooth start to the school year!  Our first PTA meeting of the 2013-2014 school year is scheduled for Monday September 9th at 6:00 pm in the Wilson field house.  The discussion topic this month will be "what to expect this school year"!  If you don't have child care, no worries...bring your kids along.  They can play in the gym while we meet.

Tuesday September 10th is our Orange Leaf FUNdrasier!  Bring the flyer that you received in your child's folder to Orange Leaf in West Allis on Tuesday and PTA will receive 20% of all sales!  Remember...this money gets put right back to Wilson to benefit your child.

Tuesday September 10th is also Market Day pick up.  If you ordered any Market Day items please pick those items up in the Wilson gym on Tuesday between 3:00-4:30 pm.

Back to School

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!  We hope your child is eager to begin the year, it's going to be a great year! 

School starts Tuesday, September 3rd.  The first bell rings at 8:25 am.  There is a lot of construction happening around the school and not many places to park so please be sure you allow enough time to get your child to their classroom line.

Summer PTA Meeting

Summer Reminders!

Folder Stuffing

Each year the Wilson PTA sorts and stuffs the folders our families take home on WOW night. We will be completing this on Tuesday, August 6 starting at 8 a.m. at Wilson. This can be done quickly with a lot of volunteers. If you would like to help, please email us! We will have light refreshments for our early risers!  Please let us know if you will be able to help!

Kickoff PTA Meeting

Our kickoff meeting is Monday, August 19 at Filippo's Italian Restaurant at 6915 W. Lincoln starting at 6 p.m. At this meeting we'll talk about the upcoming school year, programs and events, ideas for fundraisers and more! We will also be looking to fill out slate of committee chairs and volunteers!

Please remember to keep collecting your Box Tops, soup labels and milk caps! Last year these programs brought Wilson nearly $2,500. Who knows how much we can raise this year!

School Picnic

It's almost here...the Wilson PTA Family Picnic!

Friday June 7th from 4:00-7:00pm

 

If you haven't done so already, please return your pre-order food slip

to the office as soon as possible so we can prepare enough food for everyone!

 

We are in need of LOTS of volunteers to make this picnic a success.

If you would like to donate a cake and/or cupcakes to the Cake Walk

which will take place at the picnic, please bring those on Friday to room 105.

 

We will be selling basket raffle tickets from 4:00-5:45pm at the picnic. 

The basket raffle drawing will be held at 6:00pm, you won't want to miss that.

 

We hope to see all of our Wilson families at the picnic on Friday!

Basket Raffle & Principal for a Day Ticket Sales

We have extended the ticket sales for the basket raffle & Principal for a Day tickets! We will continue to sell tickets through Friday May 31! Tickets are $1.00 each for both basket raffle and Principal for a Day!

The drawing for Principal for a Day will be on Friday May 31, and the special day will be held on Tuesday June 4th.

The basket raffle drawing will held at the school picnic on Friday June 7 at 6:00 pm.
